Fast, Sensitive & Non-destructive Leak Detectors of Gas Flushed Product

Checks the pack integrity of gas flushed products, using CO2 as a trace gas. Helps assure the stated shelf life will be achieved. Test packs must contain at least 10% CO2.

Fast & highly accurate. Reliable and repeatedly capable of detecting very small leaks, down to 50 microns (µm). Cost effective, non-destructive test that reduces the product and packaging waste, created in other methods. Eliminates the biological hazard of having a water bath in the production area.

Automatic Recording of Test Data. The test results and product information are automatically stored to the internal memory of the LeakPointer 3 and LeakPointer 3+ units and can be exported via LAN or USB ports. Pre-set field headings include: Device Serial No., Date, Time, User Name, Product Name, Product ID, Vacuum (Delta), Test Duration, Leak Limit, Hole Limit, CO2 increase [ppm/s], Days Til Calibration. Additional, customisable fields are also available.

These are 4th generation leak detectors from Dansensor to use CO2 as a trace gas. Through continuing research and development, Dansensor has further optimised the test method, reduced the test time, improved sensitivity, lowered the sensitivity to atmospheric CO2 and can now calculate the size of the hole causing the leak.

Dansensor® LeakPointer 3

  • This unit has a small chamber, ideal for single pack testing
  • Supplied with the PackFix inserted in the unit lid. PackBase unit is an optional extra for leak testing of small packs
  • Immediate calculation of hole size when testing single packs. Pack testing results are expressed in ppm CO
  • Has an integral Delta-Pressure meter, essential for setting the correct test vacuum for each pack type
  • Integrated Venturi vacuum pump

Dansensor® LeakPointer 3+

  • Large chamber, suitable for multiple package tests, or testing a large single pack
  • Leak size is expressed in ppm CO2 / sec.
  • Has integral Delta-Pressure meter, essential for setting the correct test vacuum for each pack type
  • Integrated vacuum pump within the body of the unit
  • PackTray option available for multiple pack testing

Dansensor LeakPointer 3+ with PackFix

  • Large chamber, suitable for multiple package tests, or testing a large single pack
  • PackFix option incorporated in the lid
  • Supplied with removable, height adjustable PackBase
  • Immediate calculation of hole size when testing single packs
  • Leak size is expressed in ppm CO2 / sec.
  • Has integral Delta-Pressure meter, essential for setting the correct test vacuum for each pack type
  • Integrated vacuum pump within the body of the unit
  • PackTray option available for multiple pack testing

PackBase and PackFix
These elements enable the testing of the smallest packs, or those with a low volume headspace. These mesh surfaces gently compress the pack and increase the differential pressure between the pack headspace and the test chamber. The PackFix is fixed within the lid of the unit. The four, height adjustable legs of the PackBase, are positioned into lugs on the unit platform.

PackTray
The tray enables multiple small packs to be tested at the same time, within the LeakPointer 3+ and LeakPointer 3+ PackFix.

The Cause of Leaks Dansensor’s investigative work has shown that the majority of leaks are caused by very small holes. Almost two thirds are less than 200 micron. Any effective leak detection method must be sufficiently rigorous, sensitive and of long enough duration, to be able to find those very small holes.

Having even a small leak in a gas flushed pack will cause the headspace to return to atmosphere (20.9% oxygen) within a few days. The larger the hole, the faster the decay of the modified atmosphere. Starting with a headspace of 0.1% O2 and by using a series of certified holes, Dansensor measured the time taken for a pack’s atmosphere to return to 20.9% O2. Even a pack with a very small 50 micron hole had a headspace of 10% O2 after 3 days – showing it is essential to detect very small holes to ensure shelf life.

Test Method Test packs must contain at least 10% CO2. The test pack(s) is placed in the test chamber and the lid closed. This automatically activates the vacuum pump to evaluate the test chamber and create a difference in pressure between the inside of the pack and the test chamber. It is this difference that forces gas out of the pack and into the chamber. A sensitive CO2 sensor detects any increase in CO2 levels within the chamber & registers a leak. When using the LeakPointer 3 version, the size of the hole causing the leak will then automatically be calculated and displayed. The test results are automatically stored to the internal memory and can be exported via LAN or USB ports.
